Hoses & Reels frequently asked questions

Should I choose a retractable or a manual hose reel?

It depends on your setup. If you have a wall or post to mount to, a retractable reel is the most popular choice - pull out the hose and it rewinds itself. If you want to move the hose around a large property, a manual hose reel cart lets you wheel it where you need it. If you're renting or can't mount a retractable reel the metal hose reel box is an excellent alternative. Consider where you’ll position it, how big your garden is, your budget, and whether you’re renting.

What’s the difference between the Evolve and Classic retractable hose reels?

The Evolve™ Retractable Hose Reel is our newest model - designed and built in Australia, tested to over 10,000 retractions, with industry-leading UV protection, a higher 20.54L/min water flow and a 5-year warranty. The Classic Retractable Hose Reel is our original best-seller, with a 16.74L/min flow and a 2-year warranty, backed by more than 19,000 five-star reviews. The Evolve is the premium choice for frequent use and the longest warranty; the Classic offers proven, great value. Both automatically rewind your hose and the brackets share the same screw hole template.

Do hose reels need to be mounted to a wall?

Retractable reels need to be mounted to work - they can’t be used free-standing. A wall bracket is included with every retractable reel. If you don’t have a suitable wall, the Fixed Ground Mount or Mounting Post let you position the reel elsewhere in the garden (both need to be permanently secured). Manual reel carts and boxes sit on the ground with no installation required.

What length garden hose do I need?

Our retractable reels and hoses come in 20m and 30m (hoses also in 10m). Measure the distance from your tap to the farthest point you water and add a little extra. Hoses fitted with Hoselink connectors can be joined together if you need more reach, and Leader Hose Extensions (1.5m and 5m) can extend the hose between the tap and a retractable reel.

Can I leave my hose reel outside all year round?

Yes. Like all our products, our reels are UV-stabilised to handle the Australian sun and weather. To extend the life of the outer casing we recommend a Hose Reel Cover, which adds extra UV protection and keeps creatures out. Some colour fading over time is normal and won’t affect performance.
