Replacing the Guidance Tooth
The guidance tooth is a small component located within the internal feeder arm, designed to ensure the hose lays smoothly into the Evolve hose reel casing. It typically only breaks when the hose is pulled forcefully at a sharp angle.
If the hose is overlapped on itself within the Evolve hose reel casing then you will experience issues both extending and retracting the hose. Fortunately, whilst uncommon, this can easily be resolved at home by following the steps below. For video instructions, use the link at the bottom.
Steps:
Fully extend the hose – Pull the hose out as far as it will go.
Remove the front fascia – Gently pull down on the front panel of the casing to release and remove it.
Remove the guidance tooth – Carefully squeeze the bracket to release the guidance tooth, then remove it. This allows the Precision Layering System (PLS) to move freely as you pull the hose.
Re-position the layering system – With the hose fully extended, ensure the PLS is positioned all the way to the left.
Re-install the guidance tooth.
Re-attach the fascia – Re-install the front panel, ensuring it clicks back into position.
Check that the Hose Connector with Flow Controller lever is in the fully open position. This part sits directly below the spray gun on the end of the hose and needs to be positioned all the way down towards the hose.
Remove spray nozzle from hose connection and compare the water pressure to when the spray nozzle is attached to ensure there is no blockage.
Fully extend the hose, inspect for kinks, and turn the tap on full to remove possible pinch points. Check the leader hose at the entry point to the hose reel - slide off Evolve side cover and inspect.
Reverse the water flow by attaching the main length of the hose to the tap and turning the tap on fully to dislodge any potential blockages.
Note: Water flow in retractable hose reels is reduced when compared to a standard garden hose, regardless of the brand.
