Two days, one global mission.
If, like us, you care passionately about the environment and cultivating a greener world for everyone, there are two important dates you’ll want to add to your diary this year.
5th June 2025 – World Environment Day
World Environment Day is the United Nations' flagship day for promoting worldwide awareness and action to protect our planet. It takes place every year on 5th June and has been rallying individuals, communities, businesses, and governments to pull together to drive positive change since 1974. This year’s focus?
#BeatPlasticPollution
Last year alone, the world produced roughly 400 million tonnes of plastic waste. From shampoo bottles to polyester clothing and PVC pipes – plastic is clogging our rivers, choking our oceans and showing up in our food. Tiny fragments of it can even be found inside our bodies.
According to experts, plastic pollution is one of the most urgent environmental crises of our time. Thankfully, they believe it’s a crisis we can fix.
How can the world tackle plastic pollution?
From switching to reusable products to properly sorting waste into the right bins, there are simple things we can do as individuals to help reduce plastic pollution.
-
Avoid single use plastics
-
Reuse plastics where you can for storage, plants or creative projects
-
Choose products with recycled materials - especially plastic
But while personal action is important, it isn’t enough to solve the problem on its own. Real change needs businesses like ours to lead the way.
This year, we were proud to introduce our Australian-made Recycled Plastic Plant Labels! These are a recycled plastic version of our Slate Labels, designed to be used in your garden and it pot plants to label them and keep things organised. We look forward to hopefully introducing more recycled plastic and Australian made products to our range in the future.
Our commitment to reducing plastic and protecting our planet
At Hoselink, we believe in taking responsibility for every stage of a product’s life cycle – from how it’s made, to how it’s used and disposed of. This commitment drives us to design plastic products to be longer-lasting and easier to reuse or recycle. It’s led us to cut down on excess packaging, explore more sustainable materials, and ensure unnecessary plastics don’t end up seeping into our environment.
Since 2019 we’ve eliminated over 175,000 polybags and 1,500 metres of bubble wrap from our packaging, and use biodegradable alternatives wherever possible. We’ve also optimised our supply chain to reduce emissions, and recycle and salvage parts at our premises.
That said, there’s always more we can do. And real progress means thinking beyond what’s directly in front of us.
8th June 2025 – World Ocean Day
A greener world isn’t just about what happens on land – healthy oceans are equally important to ensure a stable climate. Yet our blue planet is currently facing urgent threats, including global warming and a severe biodiversity crisis. And despite these high stakes, only around 8% of our oceans are currently protected.
World Ocean Day 2025 aims to unite individuals, communities, and leaders with one clear mission: to safeguard our oceans and secure a more sustainable future for everyone.
What’s the plan?
The theme for World Ocean Day 2025 is "Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean & Climate." It builds on the organisation’s long-standing ambition to urge global leaders to deliver on their promise to protect at least 30% of the planet’s land, waters, and ocean by 2030 – a goal known as 30×30.
While 30×30 has been the sole focus of World Ocean Day in recent years, this year’s broader theme is all about action. It reflects the urgent need to address the interconnected challenges facing our ocean, climate, and biodiversity, right now.
Catalyzing action
True to its theme, World Ocean Day is catalyzing action with a robust “12 Months of Action” campaign> – a year-long schedule filled with educational resources and tangible steps anyone can take to address major ocean and climate issues.
Whether it’s deepening your understanding of ocean health or calling on leaders to take the High Seas Treaty (a global agreement to protect marine biodiversity in international waters) seriously, the plan suggests many meaningful ways to protect and restore our planet – not just today, but every day in 2025.
One world, one climate, one future.
As land-dwellers by nature, you might wonder what World Ocean Day has to do with Hoselink. But (to borrow the organisation’s phrase) with only “one world, one climate, and one future” between us, we believe protecting every inch of our planet – land and sea – is all of our business.
Join our mission
Sustainability is an ever-evolving journey for our team, and we're committed to making real, lasting improvements that have a positive impact on our environment. Right now, that means designing products built for durability, using high-quality materials and smart, repairable components. Because the longer a product lasts, the less waste ends up where it doesn’t belong – in landfills or our oceans.
If you're ready to play your part in building a better world, get involved this June with World Environment Day and World Ocean Day. Because sustainability isn’t a one-time effort – it’s an ongoing commitment. And while we can’t speak for you, we’re only just getting started.
